Julio Garcia-Aguilar, MD, PhD
As Chief of the Colorectal Surgery Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering since 2012, Dr. Julio
Garcia-Aguilar leads a team of ten surgeons and directs the team’s clinical and research
programs. He is Co-Director of the Colorectal Disease Management Team and Director of
MSK’s Colorectal Cancer Research Center. From 2008 to 2012, he was Chair of the Department
of Surgery at the City of Hope National Medical Center. Prior to that, he served on the faculties
of Complutense University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of California, San
Francisco, and was Surgeon-in-Chief of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer
Center. He has coauthored 160 research articles and 80 review articles/chapters, has served on
the editorial boards of the journals Annals of Surgical Oncology and Diseases of the Colon and
Rectum, and was President of the Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon and
Rectal Surgeons.
